Fall Leaf Study
8” x 10” Oil on Canvas
October 2004
A small painting of one of the big-leaf maple leaves from down by the river.
I wanted to do a study of Fall Color. It’s been a bit wet to sit outdoors (a.k.a. “raining incessantly”) so I brought a small part of the season indoors. I did not reckon on how much the leaf would dry and curl, just under the studio lights - lending a temporal imperative to the painting’s execution.
